Tank for 280g BP

I just joined the site. A little background about me - I used to keep reptiles when i was younger. I had snakes (BP, rat, corn and king) and an iguana. I got out of it during college. I got out of grad school about 10 years ago and am a Molecular Biologist working for the govt. Recently there was a reptile expo near me and I bought a pastel BP. I'm looking to upgrade his 10g tank and Petsmart is gonna be having a Zoo Med Bearded dragon kit on sale this weekend for 74.99. It's this one here:

I was just wondering if that would be good for the BP. I'm not gonna use the sand because I use Coconut instead. And I already have an under tank heater I'll add to it. I'm just wondering if the lamps and all would be worth the purchase. I was gonna buy a 20g anyway and thought it might be a good deal. Also if anyone has one of these setups - is the screen lockable or could the snake push on it and slide it open?

I woult waste the money. You can wait till petsmart/petco has their $1 per gallon sale And get his tank then. 10 gallon is still fine for your bp. My pied(474g) pastel lesser(500g) and black pastel(490g) are all still in 15 qt tubs. The lights would be a waste of money, along with the sand. Since you already have a UTH(assume is in a thermostat). Couldnt check the link bc it didn't work for My phone, but I'm sure there is other waste of money in the package.

A 20L is fine but a 28qt tub is easier and a ton cheaper;)

If you're going glass aquarium, a 20g long is what you would use for sub adult to adult. I think a lot of people would keep a baby in a 10 gallon until closer to 500 or more grams, though. They can go off food and have other stress related issues if the enclosure is too large.

The kit is a bad idea either way because most of the things the beardie kit comes with are not necessary or helpful for your ball python. Wait for the 1 dollar per gallon sales that both Petco and Petsmart run, as suggested.

Not a lot of people will specifically advocate using a glass aquarium. You should look into some of the PVC cage options which I'm sure someone will link. They are easier to maintain proper conditions and also help the snake feel secure and happy.

Your BP will definitely be fine in his 10gal for quite a while longer (3 months before he'll even start to look snug - basically, it will bother you long before it bothers him!). As mentioned above, you won't need any of the other stuff in the kit, since everything from your current tank is transferrable to a larger one. I would just keep an eye on Craigslist or the $1/gal sales and wait for the right deal. Oh, and definitely hold out for a locking lid.

If you want a tank set up, I would check your local Craigslist adds. They run from $20.00 and up around here, not sure where you are. I use tanks and so far no problems and all snakes are healthy and eating fine. Just be sure to clean them before using them!

I would go for a 40g breeder with a terrarium locking screen instead. The bearded dragon starter kit is cool and either way it's a fantastic deal but your getting so many things you can't use for your ball python. Just buy it and get a beardie too lol they are awesome and like dogs XD

I was thinking about getting a bearded dragon. They're gonna have them on sale Sat and Sun for $29.99. I might do that.
