    Aquarium or Tubs for rats
What would yall recommend for breeding and raising rats, aquariums or tubs? Cant the rats eat their way out of the tubs? My wife would shoot me if they ate their way out. Thanks for any help, Neil

I prefer tubs to tanks. Tanks don't provide much airflow since they are generally taller than they are wide. Tubs have a lot of floorspace and allow airflow as long as it's in a well-ventilated area. Plus they are lighter, less expensive, easier to clean, the list goes on. If you construct a rack properly, rats should not be able to chew their way out. I haven't had a single escapee in two years.

Depends how difficult you want cleaning day to be.

With tubs you can dump everything out very easily, with tanks not that much, they are heavy and you take the risk every time to break them during cleaning.

I produce several 1000 of rats each year, not sure how many breeders I currently have but they are in tubs, in racks and while chewing has occurred it has never been to the point of chewing their way out, and chewers are immediately fed off.

If you want them not to chew make sure they have water, food and a block of wood to chew on.

I'll be building a 5-6 tub rack for my rats. The cages are just getting out of hand. I have one exo-terra (small) I use for mice, what a pain to clean.

I'm very anti tanks for rats because of the airflow problems described previously.
