I was wondering what size water dish is right for my bp. He is 24" in a 20 gal breeder tank.
What size do most of you use?
My bp isn't a soaker even in shed, humditiy is good in the tank 50-60%, he just drinks and dunks his head every once in a while.
I had a large dog dish, then moved to a med size storage bowl and I wanted more room in his tank so I now have a tupperware size bowl that is about 4.5-5"round and about 2.5-3" deep.
    Does this seem sufficent?

    thanks!

well so many caresheets say you need a big soaking bowl. i dont buy it. it seems the only time a ball python soaks is when there is something wrong. so the small water bowl you are talking about...sounds fine to me.

I have had mine since Dec. and I just started seeing him drink and dunk his head.
I think they are really shy about the water thing.
I put some plastic plants around my bp's water dish and it seems like he isn't as shy now.

I use a 5 quart rubbermaid with a lid (with hole cut in lid) and about 2 inches of water in it. If the lid is kept off, he only cruises through it and to get a drink now and then, but if the lid is on, my BP likes to get in it and use it as a hide. I usually only put the lid on it when he is in shed mode because if the lid is on, the humidity drops about 10 percent. Just have to mist occasionaly due to the lid being on.

There's a whole new take on the "humid hide!" Very interesting idea...

Jotay...so long as there is a constant supply of fresh, clean water, and your snake is healthy and mite-free...I really think the size of the water dish is a personal preference kind of thing.

Here is a pic of Monty Joe exiting his water dish.
