    CD CONSTRICTORS
Kinda urgent... A bit concerned about this feeding...
My 140g Butter just snapped up a little rat pup as usual, but for some reason she has started taking it down tail end first. She is kinda having a hard time with the "hips".

I attempted to intervene once to help her get it head first, but she was not going to let go and I didn't want to hurt her. My local store says it happens every once in a while if the meal is not a problem size wise, but for a larger sized meal they will surely take it head first.

    Any worries here??

no worries, I've had even large snakes take medium rats backwards with no issues.

My normal takes them backwards 80% of the time with no problems

The number one cause of snakes eating backwards...feeding too small of a prey item.

Thanks for the piece of mind. She's always done head first as have all my others, so this was a bit concerning the first time.

Wait until they try to eat it side ways... One of mine did that once and it took her a while to figure out she had to pick an end.

I don't think it was tooo awful small. This was just as the head went down- you can see the nose in her mouth. Whatta ya think? She just got it down..... and yes, that's a little shed left under her neck that did not completely come off yet. Eyes and the rest of her body is shed- just under her neck is remaining.

Yeah the size looks ok, smaller snakes are learning to eat, so it's not a big deal, they eventually figure out how to find the head first and swallow correctly :P

    Nice lttle butter :gj:

My Normal just shy of 500 gr took a 30 gr weanling rat butt first... I know that he should be up to at least 50 gr at 10% but this one was IMO kinda large
