Shipping Delay - Ship your reptiles
I ordered a female mojave hatchling to be shipped using SYR, and to be delivered by 10:30am today. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive, and when I called FedEx I was told there was a mechanical error with the plane and it won't be delivered until tomorrow. Well, I had ordered for today because I can't be home to pick it up tomorrow, so I had to ask the local facility to hold onto it until I can pick it up in the evening. By that time she will have been in the shipping box for over 50 hours and I am very worried she wont survive. I have been told she is in a "climate controlled" room in Memphis, and the woman at the local FedEx Express said she would keep the box in her office tomorrow, so hopefully it won't overheat, but she probably will be in air conditioned rooms for a long time (and might be subjected to extreme heat as well). The package is insured for the amount I paid, but I am very worried for the snake.
Has anyone ever had their ball python(s) subjected to cold for several days? Maybe a power outage or similar shipping error? How have they fared?
Thanks,
-Andy
Re: Shipping Delay - Ship your reptiles
Most air conditioned rooms aren't going to be getting below 75deg this time of year. Overheating is a much faster killer than a day or two without a hot spot. I think your girl will be fine. :)
Re: Shipping Delay - Ship your reptiles
Shipping delay is really a FedEx issue at this time of the year I would not worry about the animal being cold, if it remains in a temp controlled room and the animal was package well it should be fine.
It's rare but it happens, I assume your snake was ship from GA?
Reason I asked is I shipped 2 animals yesterday and the one that was en route to Memphis was delayed due to a mechanical issues.
Not much you can do but wait and see, and I am sure if you bought your snake from someone reputable they are already aware of the issue and will do the right thing should the animal not make it.
Hopefully it will be just find, it's nerve wracking but it's one of those thing no one has control over.
Re: Shipping Delay - Ship your reptiles
Thanks for your replies, I have spoken with people at all of the facilities where the package is/will be to make sure that the package is kept in the air-conditioning. So I am hopeful. The person I bought the snake from has been great during this ordeal, but I am still worried and was just seeking some peace of mind in hearing from others that she will probably be okay.
Shipment was from Washington state, too NY.
