Only feeder they had is two sizes too big. :/
I brought it home thinking it would be a big meal but nothing too terrible, but I was wrong. The rat's weighing in at 95 grams (it looked a lot smaller in its tub, I swear!) and Aradia was at 301 grams this morning. So a tiny bit shy of 30%. Short of taking it back - which is a 20 minute drive each way and I'm tired from just getting off work which is probably how I made the mistake in the first place - is there anything I can do? Should I offer anyways and see if she takes it? Kill it and freeze it for later?

kill and freeze for later, that is too big of a meal for her.
    Would she take it? maybe.
Would she then stop eating for a month, maybe that too...;)

That would be a full belly. Save it for later. Or have a pet? Lol

maybe find the opposite sex, have a 1:1 breeding pair, then produce your own rats. :-D That's how I started.

It's a male, I'm pretty sure. Dribbling all over the box it's in. Can't even hold the darn thing long enough to turn it over, it's wriggling so much though. It's a black hooded rat, and I think it's a dumbo, as well. Which would make a nice breeder. I have a mini set-up for another refused feeder I ended up with that I offered a few days later and got eaten, so it could stay in that. I get paid on Friday, so I would be able to afford some sort of decent set-up. Only problem is convincing my parents that breeding rats for my one snake is a good idea - though my dad seems okay with me having more snakes just so I can justify buying F/T online in bulk which seems backwards but whatever.

Here's the little offender. Not even kind of friendly, it squeals every time I try to hold it for more than a second.

Yup, if you don't want to take it back, kill it and freeze it for later. That's too big.

Firstly if it was a boy you would know, its pretty hard to ignore, rats have large testicles. Secondly of course its not friendly, you just dragged it out of its home and scared it half to death. Rats are cognitive beings and need time in order to learn to trust you. I definitely don't think you should keep it as a pet. Freeze it or feed it.

Dont start breeding until you do more research. At the very least gain some knowledge on the animals you are about to create and kill.

Alright, so what's the best way to kill it without just putting it in a bag and smashing it against a wall or table or something?

get some dry ice. put it in a bowl with some water and put the rat in. We usually use a small tank and cover the top with saran wrap, just make sure he doesnt get burned. Leave him in there a few minutes and he will pass out then stop breathing.
