New to Site - Couple questions
Hi all, I am new to the site. I recently have started in the BO breeding scene and are starting with some of the basic morphs out there. Currently in our collection we have the following:
- 1:1 Jungle/Lemon Pastel (180g:420g)
- 0:1 Axanthic (460g)
- 0:1 Pinstripe (870g Breeder Ready)
- 0:1 Spider (300g)
- 1:0 Mojave (900g Breeder Ready)
- 0:1 Lesser Blackback (100g)
- 0:1 Het Pied Female (400g)
- 0:1 Possible Double Het Tribal Caramel (500g)
- We will be looking to add a sable and a Pied male by the end of the year.
We currently are housing them in a 5 drawer RhinoRaxx rack system with thermostat.
I am excited to become part of the forums. I did have a couple questions?
We use a temp gun, what temp do you guys strive for on your snake's surface? I have the thermostat set for 91 and their surface temp is running about 86 degrees on average. Although the top of the rack seems to run about 2 degress higher than the bottom.
Our first clutch we are aiming for a Jigsaw (Mojave x Pinstripe) and have recently heard grumblings about neuro problems (similar to spider wobble but worse) with this morph but have heard to varying degree and I cannot find information on this anywhere. Have you guys heard of this and if so is it common? Is it enough to not breed them?
Thanks for everything!

They are some of my favorites too! Absolutely gorgeous patterns and I specifically obtained my breeder made mojave and female pinstripe to produce them. I am hoping this is not true, as it came up while at NERDS last week and was new to me. I appreciate the response though!

your female pinstripe is already breeding at 800+g?

She is 870 and growing fast, so by breeding season (starting roughly November) I am hoping she will break the 1000 gram mark and I am pounding her with food every 4 days so I don't know why she wouldn't be ready to go.

Also you said you had a 5 drawer rhino rack is that the only rack you have and does it only hold 5 tubs because you have more then 5 snakes just wondering.
Sorry, should of said will be breeder ready for the upcoming winter. My mistake.
Also, the RhinoRaxx is a 5 slot but I have 8 tubs and the lesser blackback is in a 10 gallon in quarantine.
Here is a pic, although since then we have removed one of the larger ones and added two more smaller ones. We are in the process of buying one more rack for the winter months.

oh ok i get it now. good luck on breeding her.
Re: New to Site - Couple questions
I use ARS racks with 4" heat strip set at 96 degrees. Helps immensely with digestion. Would advise the same given your aggressive feed schedule. As far as the Jigsaw concerns, news to me. But would not worry. As long as your animals are healthy, maintained regularly and fed high-quality food, you'll do well. Its been my experience. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice! Heat set high to aid digestion? Do you feed yours on a similar schedule? Good to hear on the Jigsaw, I have ye to see that anywhere else and wanted to make sure it wasn't a common problem. So far, snakes all seem healthy and well maintained, with no shed problems and all eating like beasts. Thanks again! :)
