Hatching soon

My very first clutch is about to hatch any day now and I have a question. First let me say that I rescued a bp and woke up one morning to eggs, so I didn't breed her myself and wasn't prepared but got it all under control and the eggs have been doing great.

So I have them on vermiculite and they will be hatching any day. My question is should I switch out the vermiculite for paper towel now because I work 10am-9pm everyday and if they hatch while I am at work I don't want them hurting themselves or swallowing the vermiculite. I don't know if that's a possibility or not but I couldn't find info on this so I figured I would ask.

If you want to put them on damp paper towels it won't hurt anything. I do this with mine, I just prefer to.

You Dont have to I work 8-5 every day and I use vermiculite and I've had ten hatch out in vermiculite and be there all day and never had a problem I wouldn't put the eggs on paper towels wet or dry because I would be worried it would change the humidity,or begin to mold/or mold the eggs when balls begin to hatch the dot just pop out they pip and are useually like that for a day or more befor coming all the way out that's y. Wouldn't change it to paper towels but this is just my opinion

It's definitely up to you, but it's not a have to. If you are worried about them getting dirty, they will still find a way to get it all over them. The only way I would worry is if you got some verm with fertilizer, but your eggs would have died by now if that was the case and they are sitting in it.

There have been times breeders have lost track of clutchs so to speak an found them out of the egg an shed on the verm with no problem. Remember if they can make it in the wild in some dirt\mulch a lil verm wont hurt them a bit.

I dont have breeding experience but ive never heard of moving unhatched eggs onto papertowels. I would just leave them on the vermiculite. Ive never heard of anyone having a hatchling eat it or get hurt from it... Someone correct me if im wrong though...?
