Setting up a humidifier

New cage, new problems, humidity. I have to mist now and its a pain. I'd like to automate the process. Is there a good humidistat that anyone can recommend? The ones I'm finding at lows/home depot are not quite what I want. I'm looking for the humidity version of a hydrofarm thermostat. Either that or maybe I can get a timer that has better resolution than 15 minutes and have it run a few times a day. Any suggestions?

I know a lot of people using a repti fogger system from petsmart or petco. I'm pretty certain you can regulate how much you want it to mist. It doesn't have a time, but it will keep a constant low fog which will help raise humidity. I've considered getting one until I decided to go with a rack system.

They make things called seconds timer which allow you to program down to the second.

What is your humidity that you think you need a misting system or a fogger? Keeping ambient humidity of 50% shouldn't be too hard.

I don't think VooDooDoc is talking about a timed set up, but rather one that automatically fogs when humidity falls beneath a certain point. It would work just like a thermostat, where as a thermostat may be set at 90 degrees (on/off models heat up to around 92 then cool until 88ish and turn back on, good models change the power that goes to the mat), the hygrostat(?) would be set to a certain percentage of humidity and either replicate the on/off thermostat or maybe have a small amount of humidity normally but scales up with lower measurement. I like your idea, I just don't know if anyone makes anything like it. I might try to make one if I can't find one ha.

Humidistats are out there. I was just suggesting another option that would be easier to find.

Yeah, I'm dumb and didn't realize they were out there :oops: Fifty percent isn't too hard to keep even without misting usually... Maybe VooDoo is talking about keeping humidity up in shed? What type of an enclosure are you using VooDoo?

I use the hygro stat to control my lamp and my reptifogger...Extremely easy to use !!

Humidity is usually around 40-45% so I just wanna bring it up a touch. Plus when Im out of town I dont want my wife or the pet sitter to have to mess with it. Looks like the hygrostat is what I was looking for, expensive buggers though.

My setup is an Exo-Terra glass tank. Its just a lot bigger than what I used to use which was a 20gal tank and had no humidity issues.

I just ordered a pump for a humidifier design I came up with. SHOULD be here in the next week or so. As soon as it gets here, I'll post the tutorial so you can build your own. It keeps the humidity right about 50% without any effort, and it'll cost you less than $20 tops.

Looking forward to reading that. I have seen a few ideas posted in other threads using an aquarium air pump.
