My snake hates his hides?

So my snake has outgrown his little rock hides so I got some kitty litter pans and cut them down to size. He was fine and used them for about 2 weeks. Then he decided it was better to hide behind the hide rather than inside it. I had the opening just barely bigger than he was, so I made it even bigger but still refuses to go inside. If I stick his head in he'll crawl in for a few hours but before long he's back behind. Does the same thing on both ends of the cage.

Is he in a rack? Does he still eat regularly? He may just not feel like using it. I have a few snakes that don't use their hides from time to time.

They Like it tight... so if Your new hide will give him too much space he will be feel more secure sitting between hide and wall of cage/tube.
My Adult YB is same way... on his chunky side he sitting in hide.. after few moths off feed when he lost some weight he prefer tight space between hide and wall of tub.. after gaining couple hundreds grams more he is back in hide.

If You can find something smaller but big enough to contain him try that. :gj:

No not in a rack, I just moved him into a bigger Exo-Terra tank and now he decides to make a liar out of me and is inside. He eats fine other than being big wuss he is afraid if the rat moves (no zombie dance for this snake).

Yeah it usually takes some time for them to get used to new hides. I'd say if he is eating regularly then it isn't a big deal wether or not he uses them all the time.

When I switched my hides they were also to big, I just crumbled up some paper and put it under the hide, problem solved!

I have one hide alittle to big. My bp has always used it but I did add moss to make her feel more secure while inside.

That helps me during shed because I mist it to create a more humid hide.

This is a great technique. Crumpled newspaper can make lots of things seem smaller, not just a hidespot, but even a new, larger, more wide open cage. You want to break up the open visual lines, and in the case of the hide, give some tactile feel of snugness. Crumpled paper is a great trick for that!

I just scooped some extra bedding inside the hide to snug it up. He seems to like that better. He's in there right now at least.
