I Need Help Finding a Cage!

Hello everybody,

I'm currently housing my female lesser platinum in a 20 gallon tank and she's already 3 years old. She's approx. 3.5 feet long and 989 grams. I feel like it's time to upgrade her living space. I'm trying to find a tank that will last her whole life even if she gets to be 3,000 grams. I've been looking at the Critter Cages as a good upgrade. Would you guys think that the XL critter cage (L:48" W:24" H:18") or a longer but slimmer cage would be better? Could you guys also please tell me some cheap places to look for some of these. Ive looked on craigslist but no luck so far. I need to get this cage within this next week so I'm really hoping you guys can help me out.

I would buy a PVC cage for her from somewhere like Animal Plastics.

Or a tub setup, a 34-41qt (though not as pretty)

I agree with Mike. Animal Plastics PVC cage is really high quality.
The T8 model is perfect for an adult BP.

I really like those animal plastic T8's. When I have the money I'll look more into that style. Right now I'm more interested in a plain glass terrarium. More specifically zilla's XL critter cage. Could you guys tell me if I should get the XL, the 40 breeder, or something bigger? I really appreciate yalls quick responses. Keep em comin!

Since it sounds like you just want to find something that is inexpensive for awhile while you save up for a nice PVC enclosure I would definitely recommend just going with a tub setup. They are highly functional and probably the most inexpensive route you can go, so you will already have some extra money left over that can be the start of your savings for the PVC enclosure.

I would have to agree. I will probably just go to walmart and pick up a relatively large sterilite tub for now (not sure about the spelling). Do you guys have any recomendations for a good tub that will be big enough for a 4 ft. 1kg BP? Also, for the future, what kind of door would you guys recommend for the T8? I see on animal plastics website there are two different types of doors: the swinging doors and the sliding doors. Which ones are more convenient? Keep in mind the swinging doors are 35 more dollars. Is it worth it?

One last thing,

If I'm going to spend the money on that nice of a setup, would it be beneficial to go ahead and spend the extra money on a couple extra features they offer? Like the flexwatt, locks, White Fluorescent Fixture, Pop in-Pop Out Divider, etc? Right now I only have 1 BP so buying this cage wont be that bad. But once I start breeding, I will definitely start using racks lol.

Check out this thread on the AP T8... I have more than a few of these now and I strongly suggest the sliding glass doors, cage locks (to keep people out), 11" flexwatt, & fluorescent lights. If you want to keep more than 1 BP in the T8 then get the divider 9If you get the divider you will also have to purchase a second fluorescent light fixture)

The sliding glass doors are way more convent, and won't ever warp like the swing doors or acrylic sliding doors will.

From my experience, ball pythons do not do well in cages. IMO, they do much better in rack systems / tubs.

What makes you say that? All of mine are doing great. Growing, eating, shedding in one piece. What more could you ask for?

PVC cages hold humidity in just as well as tubs, and hold in heat much better than tubs. With the right heat source/thermostat a PVC cage can be controlled much more precisely than a tub can be. And doesn't require a heated room to control the ambiant temps.
