    Tips on reducing humidity please!
I have Kenyan Sand Boas and I am having issues keeping humidity down. Its sits around 60-65%. I live in Washington and with the warmer weather the humidity has gone up.

I have them in a rack with belly heat (flexwatt) and use a VE200. I use sani chips for substrate, and the tubs have holes added for better ventilation. I have them in my bedroom because it is the 'kid free' zone. I have a ceramic heat emitter across the room to boost my tarantulas and it helps a little but I have to turn it off on hot days.

Are there any tricks I can help to lower it in the tubs? If not are there any tricks to lowering it in the room?

    Thank you!

I think the biggest tip I can give to lower it is airflow. I use my ceiling fan speed for my humidity. More ceiling fan = less humidty, less ceiling fan = more humidity. For my QT snake I put a small regular fan in there pointed away from her tub and it has taken my humidty down from 77% to 60%.

I have a large tub for a new snake I'm getting. I was having a problem with high humidity when I added the Forest Floor to the tub, it comes moist. Just by turning on the ceiling fan the few holes the tub has had enough air move across to drop the humidity alot. I actually had to reduce the fan speed because it dropped it to much.

If you have a fan you can put in the room i would try placing it near but not directly next to your rack and see if you get the same results.

Also moving the water source as far from the heat source as you can will drop it some.

I don't have a ceiling fan but I'm going to hit the store and grab one I can prop on a chair. My water is already as far as I can get it. My Dum and BP are in heaven but the sand boas not so much:weirdface

    rice.

Add a big tupperware filled with dry white rice. Put it in a tupperware with a bunch of small holes and you're golden. Its not going to absorb it SUPER quick, but it will slowly absorb it.

More holes in your tubs. Then if you need to get it back up ever, you can just cover a few holes.

What is the room RH? if the room and the tub are about the same it may take a dehumidifier.

That's strange. I'm in WA and our humidty is about 30-35%. My hogs need dry so I literally put 1/8" in their tiny water bowls and I have a ton of holes in their tubs. How are you measuring humidity? My ambient is lower than that in a sealed reptile room with 45+ snakes.

BTW, I use a small ceramic heater for stabilizing temps at 80 in the room. I use the baseboard in case of major temp drops and I have an oscillting cylinder fan on constantly. BP tubs hold about 55-60% and the hogs are just slightly above 30-35% which is right above the room humidity.

Its my crapy apartment. To make matters worse the room is right next to the bathroom and the fan does diddly-squat. I also keep a large amount of orchids. The KSBs rack is right there in humidity as the BPs. I will reduce the water a lot (that should help some).

I'm using and acu-rite thermometer/hydrometer http://www.amazon.com/Acu-Rite-00325...te+thermometer I'm sure its not the best but if its in the ballpark than its too high.

My whole upstairs is about 62%. I'm going to do some shuffling and try having the tarantulas and CHE on top of the KSBs instead of my Dum's setup. Maybe it'll help. We're going to resume house shopping when the hubby is back from deployment!!!
