what should i use for thermostats? how do they work and is there one that is on a timer also so that during the day i can set it to x degrees and at night a different x degree without manually changing it?? my work schedule blows so changing them manually isn't very practicle for me. thanks guys

You'll want to make sure you buy one with a built in night drop. Its super easyand worth the extra money. Just entering in times and temps in the digital face plate.
I use the VE-300 and I would never use anything else. Super easy to use and accurate. I love the digital face, very easy to navigate and has some great features.
you can check the thermostat out here http://www.reptilebasics.com/ve-300

As far as how they work...if you have a rack system and flexwatt heat tape then all the tapes get plugged into a power strip and the then thats plugged into the thermostat. The probe of the thermostat is set on the heat tape, you can secure it in the cage, just never use tape to secure it (this is what I do because I believe its most accurate.) Or you can secure it outside of the enclosure, directly on the flexwatt. The thermostat probe will read the temp and will heat the flexwatt accordingly. Just make sure the probe is secure, if it becomes loose and falls from the area the thermostat can heat up the flexwatt to a dangerous level.

So just find a thermostat that suites your budget and needs and you should be very happy with them.
