    Rack ideas
I am thinking of making a rack this week, the rack will be 41 qt tubs and this is my first one made with 41 qt tubs. I am just wondering if 2' w X 3' l would be a good size to have the cuts made for the "shelves". Also 4' high should be plenty of room for 6 tubs correct? I calculated 6 1/2 to give some extra space so I took 6.5 times 6 and came out with 39 so 4' should be plenty for 6 41 qts and maybe some additions later on right?

I would not make the body of the rack much wider or too much longer than the tubs are. Only an inch on each side and two on the front is all you need extra means more chance to get the tubs in crooked and leave a small opening at the front. Snakes have crazy ability to open things. i have a big male whom has slid his tub out of the rack and I found him just as he was making a bid for freedom. I now have pegs closing all the tubs.

Racks save a lot of space, they are not too bad for heating the warm end. My experience with them cleaning is not easy (I disinfect according to the disinfectants instructions the interior body of the rack every month) and cool end ambient temps are easy but can be very costly, heating a whole room is efficient if you have a few racks but one? not so much. There are a number of people whom tote racks as the perfect solution, they often never mention the down sides... I find each shelf of a rack takes the same time to clean as a full heavily decorated PVC enclosure. The people I had had comments about this simply cannot be disinfecting the body of the rack according to the instructions of the product used. (f10 CHG CHD iodines contact time is 10min saturated, chlorine and alcohols is 20min contact time. Peroxides 10-25% are the fastest at 5 min) Clearly any time less then the contact time hasn't been disinfected.
