mice seem to be loosing fur

i got 11 baby mice that are 2 weeks old and i noticed that some look like they are losing fur. could this be illness related?

the substrate is soft wood(pine/fir) mixed with aspen

Anybody had this happen before?

Any chance the parents were Rex's? Not sure if there is such a thing in mice but some of my feeder rats are Rex's and will throw single or double Rex babies occasionally. They don't look unhealthy in the pic from what I can see of them (detail isn't great), so it could just be that they're molting. If that's the case, nothing to worry about and their hair will grow back in due time. If they are Rex or double Rex, then the pattern will repeat where they molt/shed fur and then grow it back. Where did you get them? Do you raise/breed your own or...? Not sure if you knew the genetics or could ask the person you got them from if you didn't raise them yourself.

How hot is it in the room where you have them? That might be part of it. Much over 80 degrees and complications can start arising. They're covered in fur and it's going to be several degrees warmer in the tub/tank/whatever where you're keeping them just from their body heat, so you might take a look at what the temps are in your room.

they are from a pair of petco mice i breed the white mice isn't the real mom shes the foster mom. they look healty, starting to eat solid food, and run around. the fur problem is the only thing i see wrong with them. as for temps i would say around 79-82 it's been raining so it's kind of cool.

It could be over-grooming from mom. Is the adult doe losing any fur as well? If yes, it could also be mites.

What are you feeding them? They have a recall on mazuri feed and I had read that the issue was it had too much of some vitamin and I think hairloss was one of the possible symptoms of overdosing on that vitamin.

it was some petco bought food. i kept 1 but it grew his fur back already

happen to me a while back. i dont know what it was. some of them also were really small while the others got bigger. the mom was a new breeder for me gave two litters and they all did the same thing. culled her and havent had a problem.

I had some mice recently losing hair on the back hind, and it was maybe 4-6 of them. I was kind of worried, and put them down in case they had something contagious. That was 3 days ago. Today, I saw one of my baby rats with the same hair style on its head. I'm not sure if it was just wet, but I'll monitor it tonight. I still am unsure. I doubt it's the rex genes though.

My bet would be overgrooming or poor diet.

If the fur grew back they mightve just been moulting out of their baby fur.. happens in rats..
