Jewelry question

So I'm looking for a necklace to go along with the BRB I got my fiancé for an engagement preset and I was wondering if anyone knows if gemstones are primarily only given to people when they are their birthstone or if it doesn't matter.

I found a site that gave the symbolism of certain stones but it always starts out with what month birthstone it is. I don't want to give her a necklace with a ruby or a emerald and have her think I don't know what month she was born... Hahahaha!

That depends on your gf. I don't really like my birthstone, so I just get whatever stone I like.

My birthstone is a diamond, but my favorite gem is a good sapphire.

Does she have jewelry already? If so, go snooping! Haha. See what colors dominate her current jewelry. This will give you some insight for sure. My jewelry has various colors, but my blue jewelry set in silver is dominant.

I totally didn't think to go look what she had already lol! She has a bunch of different colors so I guess I'm good getting her something else =P
