    Cage setup thread..
So I decided to dedicate the day to... getting proper humidity/temps in my tank!:rolleyes:cuz I really have nothing to do.:)

The humidity is coming along nicely with just the big water bowl. I need to save up again to buy a light dimmer, and the heat pad without it is 94º.

So far I can only get the ambient temp up to 77º.... but its only been all set up for about 20 mins at the most.

    the humidity is at 55%.:)

setup now with uth and light and thermometer/hydrogemeter

I didn't know the thermometer reading would show up backward!!??:confusd:

so is the heat pad unregulated? if so you need to just unplug it. It simply is too dangerous unregulated.

What kind of pad is it. I too would always suggest a t-stat with a uth there are only a very few very special (very rare) circumstances where you may be able to forgo one.

Yes, before I was actually mesuring the heat to see what was it's hottest. I need to save up again to but the t-stat.

It is an ExoTerra HeatWave "ultrathin" heat mat.

You mean it is dangerous even whithout the snake?

Not exactly... I always do an unregulated test. I am quite fussy and need to see how bad bad can be, what a failure could produce. I believe it to be good practice. Unregulated on glass with the air spacers in place and correctly installed on a regular surface it is not likely to be a problem. Incorrectly installed spacers on a insulating surface it could be. I would tend to run tests but once the temp is stable shut it off until the next. The Exo Terras need a T-stat to regulate them s the pad can become too hot to be safe for the snake. There are a very few low density heaters that this is not the case, usually they are not appropriate for hot spots as they alone no enclosure substrate do not produce 90ºF If used as cool end then you are back to T-stats.

A thermostat (T-stat) is a critical bit of safety gear it regulate the temps of the enclosure. Temps dictate if you snake can digest, fight infections, and generally everything else they require for life. Quite directly a T-stat controls the health and well being of your snake. choose one carefully.
