Help urgent help help!

My redlight bulb smashed! I need help i seen smokish stuff go into her cage i dont know if its murcury or something please! Help!

AND SHES ABOUT THE SHED! HELP!

Remove the snake, wipe down the cage with water, wipe dry, put snake back in. I don't believe the red bulbs contain mercury? Somebody know for certain?

Should not have mercury, unless it is a Mercury Vapor Bulb.

And replace the bulb.

Just make sure there is no glass in the enclosure and never spray water on a hot bulb.

Yeah no, those "redlight bulbs", if it's a zoo-med or exoterra or the like don't have mercury. They'd be a heck of a lot more expensive if they did....they're really just glorified light-bulbs with red glass instead of clear to provide "infrared" wavelengths. I've exploded one before too, makes a smokey mess but it clears out pretty quick.

Just clean it? Wear gloves if you are really that worried.. I don't know what else you would do...

Is it normal for these bulbs to explode? The OP and one person who commented both have had them explode on them...

There definetly isnt mercury in it. And if there is youll know, because soon youll be mad as a hatter :D

Well, no...not generally speaking.

If, however, you are being a little over-zealous in your misting and cross room-temp water with a 100'F+ thin glass surface then yes.....they have a tendency to go *poof*. >_>

...not that I've ever done that....

...or when removing it to replace with the back-up CHE and grabbing the element to re-adjust it in the fixture forgetting that the lamps are hooked up to a single switch so that it one of the goes the other one will turn on....

FYI the only bulbs that have mercury are fluorescent ones that are close to daylight (cool white) and full daylight the more UVB the bulb out puts the more mercury is in the mix.
