    Best t-stat for my setup?
Getting my first BP very soon!! I was wondering, people seem to love the Herpstat and Helix brands, but others find them to be unnecessary if you have just one snake. I have a 20g tank and will be using an UTH and CHE as heat sources. So in my situation, is there a different thermostat that might work? Also needs to be able to control both heat sources. Possible?

Edited to add: You can also let me know if this is just a bad setup. I can take it :p

I have a VE-200 on just one snake. I love it:)

Edit: I keep a tub setup so am not the best to ask about what you have.

It really depends on how much you're willing to spend.

A good on/off thermostat you could get for around $40 depending where you go. I think I got my hydro farm on/off tstat for 35 on amazon. These are the type that have fluctuations of a couple degrees as they work like the thermostat I'm your house. On when it drops below the set point, off when it passes the set point.

Or you could go with a proportional tstat which can easily go over $100. These are better for maintaining a constant temperature, if that's what you're looking for. This type constantly adjusts the power output to maintain a consistent temperature. Some of these are very customizable (ie. Herpstats) which can simulate a night drop in temperature.

Again, it ultimately depends on your budget and how much control you want over your snakes environment. And yes you can run both your uth and che on one tstat, but only for that enclosure. Happy hunting!

This type of set up is fine. It can be hard to balance ambient temps against humidity. But there are options.

    One option...

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...arium-Solution

Heated air rises and humid air rises not having an open top solves the heat and humidity loss. It does eliminate the CHE however. Dual UTH can work if the room runs warm and dual with interior lighting if the room is cool. Fluorescent lighting is quite good at heating the air, and safe as it does not get hot enough to burn. Blue LED interior mounting will heat some as well due to the heat given off by the electronics.

There are really only four choices of T-stats with dual probes. The herpstat, VE and ecozone and herp keeper. herpstats offer the largest amount built in safety Ecozone the most advanced options, herpkeeper is not far behind and the VEs being the most basic of the dual probe ones. The Ecozone I think finishes as the most expensive and the Herpkeeper not too far behind, the herpstat and VE about the same. The smart money is on the herpstat as it is many times more advanced and offers added safety no other does for the price of the least expensive. There is a reason why they lead the market.

Links... I like to download the manuals to get a real sense of what features each has.

I have a VE-200 and think its aweshummmm. I'll most likely run a majority of my racks (in the future) on them or VE-300's. I do wanna buy a herpstat and helix someday though to compare. I cant say that VE's are the best bc i havent owned all 3. Theyre the only ones ive owned so of course my opinion is gunna be swayed a bit haha.
