ideal temp for a gravid bp?

so ive been reading about bps slugging out is this a temp related issue if so what are good temps to keep her in? im at 90 hotspot and 86 cool side

well what exactly have you read about it?
at this point nothing like that is proven as far as I know.
there's no way to eliminate slugs, we can't have perfect clutches every time.
My hot spot is 92 abs it seems to work ok.

Your cold spot is too hot, if you want a cool spot and a hot spot you need more than a 4 degrees variance.

You would be better off to have ambient at 86 with no hot spot than cool spot at 86 and hot spot at 90.

If you want to provide cool spot and hot spot I would recommend 76/88 and 86/88. (at least 8 to 10 degrees variance)

I like to keep gravid females a little cooler than most people their hot spot is no higher than 86/87 (Spring,fall and winter)

In the summer I actually do not provide a hot spot and simply provide ambient temps (room is around 88 which mean 86 in the tubs).

My females all curl up directly over the heat when they're gravid. I assume they know what they're doing. I keep the same temperatures year round--75 to 80F cool spot (that depends on room ambient temperture), and 90F hot spot. I do not allow my gravid females a basking spot over 90F, because they often lay eggs directly on the heat tape, and I want the eggs to be safe.

I have gotten very few slugs this year. I did have one female lay an entire infertile clutch, though, and another with several infertiles, but all of my bred females laid eggs this year, and the majority are all good.

I had a lot of slugs last year and I had a suspicion that was because my hotspots were a little high. I lowered them to max 88-89 this year and 37 eggs in no slugs yet :D

Well, with only two clutches to my credit, I'm not sure what I can add. But, lurking on here, I have noticed I run my critters a bit cooler than some.

My average ambient to cool side temps in the cages are between about 79 and 75. Sometimes lower, but I try not to go any higher. Most of my basking spots are between 86 and 89 degrees. A couple are slightly cooler.

As far as the females who've laid eggs, specifically, Dahlia had a basking site temp of 87 and Cloe had a temp of 86. Dahlia laid in 2010, Cloe laid a month ago. Both girls were first timers laying in their third year, both went exactly 40 days from the prelay shed, both laid six eggs, neither gave me any slugs. If it's relevent, one is a black pastel, the other is a pied.

Like I say though, only two isn't much a sample size :oops:
