Cutting Eggs

Is it too early to cut eggs at day 52? They are starting to dimple and look pretty good. When do you guys typically cut?

I wait until the first one pips, which seems to be a common method... I'm afraid of cutting too early, and having to keep the eggs clean/moist until they're ready! I know the wait is rough, but better to be safe than sorry IMO.

Wait a few more days. At Day 52, their colors are just starting to come in.

Most cut at day 57 some do it earlier some later. My personal method is to wait till at least one pips and cut the rest.

You can cut a day 52 with no problems. Just make sure you leave the flap of egg that you open(so it closes back on itself). Don't remove it fully otherwise you will expose the fluid to bacteria which could cause an infection of the fluid. Not to mention, it will dry the eggs up. Also, try not to clip the veins. Most people that cut wait until day 55 or so. I'm cutting a clutch today on day 53. Good luck!

I think it depends on the clutch, my first pipper was on day 53!

the choice is ultimately yours you can cut when ever you want to some people cut at day 30 some people cut when first baby pips its all about your choice on when to do so .... if your experienced enough then you can cut , if your not then i would suggest not cutting at all unless absolutely necessary ..

but it all boils down to when you feel like cutting

I cut them and they looked good. I'll post pictures up later. Do you disinfect your scissors after using them? If so how?

I cut around day 57. There are many really bad experiences posted on this forum about people who cut early. SnakebytesTV has a new cutting video and I believe he cuts around day 57 as well. Every day you cut early, you expose a moist warm environment to allow all kinds of gunk to enter. Patience is a real virtue and the greatest trait needed in ball python breeding.

Depends on the specific clutch, but we never cut before day 50, or before the eggs seperate from each other easily (if in a clutch where they were touching, of course). If they do not easily come apart from each other, we do not cut. Some we cut on day 50, most at day 52, and they're crawling out a couple days later. . If they're still cemented together, or if they are still very plump with no signs of dimpling, we will wait longer.
