Sad (graphic) story with happy ending.
Today on the way home I saw a dog wondering down a very busy road. He made me nervous so I pulled over to try and call him. As I got out of my car he ran into the road and got hit. It made me sick to my stomach. I watched him role and yelp in the road. Then he got up and took off running. I was more determined than ever to get this dog. I finally caught him at a fence gate. As I was holding his collar and calling the number on his tag a neighbor pulled up and said the dog lived at the house we were at. So I called the owner who came and took him to the vet. The owner called me not too long ago and the dog has basically a clean bill of health. Just a concussion and a small cut on the leg. Superficial wounds for being hit by a car if you ask me. I had to share this story cause I can't get the poor dog out of my head. The lady driving the car didn't seem to care about the dog and that is also bothering me.

    Thats sad yet happy!

Yea its amazing how some people care so little about animals. I love dogs. In fact if i had to pick, id probably pick dogs over snakes even! :O

I'm glad this story had a happy ending. It's amazing how little some people care about things.

That's great that the dog was ok! It makes me sick when people won't even try to avoid animals that run out onto the road.
Yesterday I swerved/hit my breaks to avoid a TINY groundhog thinger that ran into my lane. I was so afraid I was going to hit it.

Thank goodness the doggie is okay!

And I know just what you mean about people not caring. I see people swerve to HIT animals on a regular basis here.

Niiice. I'm really really glad to have read this because a few months back we had the exact same thing happen to us but reverse ending. :( We drove all across town to get him to an emergency vet, got him there alive. The owner called us a bit later to tell us he couldn't be saved and had to be put down. I had figured that would be the case, during the drive the poor thing SOAKED me and the car seat in blood, I looked like I had murdered someone. It was horrible. Same thing with the driver not even caring.

I am so glad to hear a happy ending to this story, it somehow makes me feel a bit better about our experience, which still makes me sad from time to time.

Good on you for helping the dog. Why do you say the person that hit it didn't seem to care? Did they not stop or did they get out and talk to you and their attitude about it made you feel that?

Glad the doggie is ok. Thank you for trying to help him! I couldn't avoid a squirrel one morning, and cried a the way to work. When I got there I was telling someone about it, and he said, "good, you thinned out a stupid one that didn't know how to get out of the way". People and their lack of compassion amaze me. I know animals aren't for everyone, but come on...

What a lucky, lucky pup! I, too, am saddened by the mentality of some people now-a-days when it comes to animals and their welfare. I try like heck to avoid hitting anything (even birds...here in Utah they're crazy enough to fly into your grill) and when I do hit something, I stop immediately to see if I can offer aid. I once hit a cat on accident and when I stopped, the kids that were standing on the corner laughed when I got out. They said: That cat is so stupid, it deserved to get hit. :tears: I think I cried for a week, because I did kill the poor thing.

The poor doogie. I'm so glad to hear that he is fine. What a great ending!!

I do just want to add, that while hitting animals while driving is extremely sad, if it comes down to hitting an animal or crashing my family into trees, a ditch, a house, etc., I'm picking the animal.

Now this has never happened to me, I have only hit a squirrel once many years ago, and I felt extremely horrible and sad.
