9/10 isn't bad... We lost a baby *graphic pics inside*
Well if you have been following my other thread you all know that 9/10 of my babies were out of their eggs by yesterday and I was a little concerned about baby number 10. We had cut the egg and I could tell he was a normal and was moving around inside but he hadn't poked his nose out of his egg.

When I checked on them this evening I found him dead out of the egg, still attached to his yolk sac. His stomach was fused together in 2 different places making it impossible for him to absorb all of his yolk and he wouldn't have been able to move well either. I'm honestly surprised he made it out of his egg on his own.

Losing a baby sucks, especially on a first clutch.

*warning* Here are some pictures I took *warning*

Yeah, it happens and it always sucks. It probably happens a lot more then people realize, but a lot of people won't admit to it and post pictures as proof. I thank you for doing so because I think that people who want to get into breeding really deserve to know that it's not always going to turn out to be cute little baby snakes all the time.

In the 20 years I've been breeding snakes I've had several babies that look like that. Granted, percentage wise, it doesn't happen that often. I'd estimate that it's less then 1% of the time. But on the other hand I wouldn't say it'll never happen and people have to be aware of the possibility .

I'm sorry it happened to you on your first clutch, but congratulations on the other 9 hatchlings. The healthy ones are what make it all worth while.

I think you are right, we don't often post about the negatives and frankly, I have kind of a morbid curiosity about things like this. I like seeing/hearing about the bad as well as the good so I know what to expect and also so I don't automatically assume I did something wrong and that it just happens sometimes.

I am super excited about my other little worms. They all seem to be happy/healthy (well maybe not so happy, I got struck at 3 times today just checking on them, none connected though)
