    when two males lock up
has anyone had a "female" that was actually a male lock up with a male multiple times? would the "female" (actually male) react (get off me bro!) after a lock or two or continue "taking it"? i know two males will lock up but i want to know what happens when you have the all-too-common missexed bp pair that strangely won't ovulate/stop locking up/ etc.

I'm not sure why you would continue to pair if you know they are both males. Odds are the male that is "taking it" will be taking the next year off. It can be very damaging to a male that has lost a combat. They can sometimes take years in a row off of breeding, not to mention they will combat each other or stress out to the point of sickness from the stress. Do you not have somewhere to house them apart from each other?

I think he means if you didn't know said male was actually a male, and witnessed multiple locks only to find out later down the road that it is a male.

I've heard of males locking up, usually the dominant one "winning", but not sure of the consistency once it's actually happened. I'm sure it depends on the snake.

I'm hoping everybody has the answer to that question. YOU STOP PAIRING THEM UP. Let me add this, if you are going to be breeding animals you need to learn to sex the animals or have somebody sex them for you. Just like any species, males can be aggresive towards each other in the presence of a female at the right time of the year.

    Nothing happens?
Lol males will lock. As you stated, you are aware of this.
I guess I'm confused as to what your question is.

lol......that is the very obvious answer. I THINK the actual question is "has anyone witnessed multiple locks with the same two males, unknowingly one was a male"...

I'm pretty sure this is what he's asking as well.
No, I haven't but I almost put a male with a male back when I first started out. The people I bought the snake from said "she" was a female, and I took his word for it. When it came to breeding season I confused the two so I probed them only to find out both were male.

Yes I have had males locks multiple times, obviously one of the male was thought to be a female (bought it from someone I knew and never sex it).

Since I saw the same pair lock multiple times I never thought there was an issue, it's only when I paired the "female" to another male and they started to fight, that I knew something was up, I sex the "female" and found out "she" was a he.

That day I learned that animals should always be sex upon arrival no matter who they are coming from (Mistake do happen)

If you have doubt regarding the sex of one of your animal you should obviously sex the animal in question and have it double check if you are unsure and obviously if it is indeed a male stop pairing it with a male.

We have a big male that full on thrashes and smacks around other males if in the same enclosure...any if our other males seem to be non confrontational... but we have ended up with a massive male we traded/received as a female. Quickest way to know for sure is to have somebody you trust probe both animals (and teach you how). Less time wasted that way.

i'm a girl, and yes this is what i was asking. taking someones word for it and then finding out that your male and "female" are actually two males...and you've witnessed lock after lock...obviously locking without sparring because that would be a pretty huge hint that she was actually a he. to be more precise, i'm asking if anyone has witnessed multiple locks in an accidental male to male pairing?

i am housing a female and male together after a month of QT but i was just worried that perhaps she is actually a male since i haven't had her probed yet and the person i got her from was pretty sketchy. i have witnessed no sparring and a couple of locks.
