    Respiratory infection update. Bad news
So I have some bad news my male mojave passed away 4 days ago to a RI... Rip Mojito Bummed.. He was on treatment for almost 2 months consisting of baytril and ceftazidime... Im kicking myself for not doing a culture "doctors orders said it was not needed" to figure out exactly what he had because 2 more of my snakes were infected by him and showing signs of improvement but Mojito also showed signs of improvement at one point... and the 3rd my lesser was sent to me with an RI.
Sandy my spinner, Honey my lesser and Meaty my normal who are on the same treatment they did 10 days of baytril 2.27% and are finishing up with there ceftazidime there on treatment 8/10. Honey seems to be completely healed up for now and took 2 small rats last week yay!, meaty and sandy are still showing signs not as bad as when they first started but its still there. I contacted my vet the moment Mojito passed and she thinks the meds became too much after the amount of time he was on them. I also froze him "bad idea" so they cant do a necrosis to maybe get a graft of the lung to culture.
Basically when i finish the last 2 treatments of ceftazidime sometime next week my vet said to give them a week break from medicin and then there going to be put on amikacin nebulized. I really hope whatever mojito had is not viral. Also how do you guys feel about amikacin i have heard only bad things about it have any of you had experience with it with animals who just would not kick there ri?

I have also been doing tylon 200 every other day + f-10 nebulized every day. The heat covers all of the bottom of my tub set at 94.

Thanks Mike and Coleslaw. I really dont wana to start amikacin ive heard its really bad on there kidneys. I guess the best thing to do at this point is get a culture and wait the 2 weeks for the antibiotics to clear there system.

Go see a different vet. Get a culture done.

The vet works for you and should not be "ordering" you around. If you want a culture taken, tell him to do one.

The last thing a sick snake needs is another round of injection - especially when they may be for naught.

Do a search on here for amikacin and see what comes up.

    Don
Sorry to hear about your Mojave. Skiploader is right. You pay that vet. He works for you. You should be able to get any test you want because you are the customer and you are paying for it. Sometimes you have to be insistent, not rude but insistent. I use like to use the term polite confrontation for these types of insisting.

Thanks Skip and Don i really appreciate the impute. I had a chat with my vet today and im going to wait 10 days for the antibiotics to pass through there system and then proceed with the culture. I am going to probably get 2 cultures done because the RI/pneumonia come from 2 different sources because both were shipped to me in these conditions.
