    so i got provent a mite, to try and rid myself of the little buggers. the bottle says do not use without substrate, do paper towels count as substrate? also would spraying the carpet be of any value? or just wasteful?

    Yes paper towels count, and kudos for using them while in the process of getting rid of the mites. And I found spraying the general area with PAM was helpful.

    When I was using paper towels, I would spray the paper towels with Provent-A-Mite, let them dry, and then put them in the enclosures. It will also help if you spray it on a paper towel and wipe down any surrounding structures like racks, or stands, that the tubs or enclosures maybe sitting in or on. You can lightly spray the carpet around infested enclosures if you want, just make sure that you remove the animals from the room, until it dries and you don't smell any vapors...

    ^^^ Good advice. I also remove the water dish for a couple days afterward. Don't know if it's necessary, but I like to limit the opportunity to transfer into a drinking source.

    It's fine to be safe, but I don't think the two days are needed. I put the water dishes back in 15-20 mins later and never had a problem. To each there own.

    I usually treat my hides. I just do a quick, light spray inside and out. As with everything else, make sure they are dry and vapor free before putting them back in the enclosure...
