    2nd feeding! 2hits and a miss :( *pics*
Hey all its been 5 days which means time for another feeding for the new ones.

Calypso and Odin ate fine without a problem. Unfortunately Freyja the 57g girl still wont take. I contacted the breeder and they said that she was on f/k

Which really sucks cuz there is no chance in hell I will kill a baby rat. I dont even want to attempt to feed her a live one. One of the rules of me getting ball pythons was that they were to eat f/t only. Like seriously my sister and my mother will not allow me to kill a rat. I dont even want to bring it up to them that I might have to attempt giving her a live one.

I have tried giving her f/t twice now. I thaw out in hot (out of tap) water first. Then take a blow dryer to it for about 5 minutes and she still wont take it. Ill leave it in there for 20 minutes come back and reheat it again and nothing.

    Anyways,

Here are Calypso and Odin with their rats.

Ball pythons are picky. If they havent tried it, then they don't see it as food. Once they try it, they know that it's okay to eat. They will starve themselves to death!!! With live they won't because they know it's food. Believe me, there are snakes that will never switch. They usually don't take f/t as babies. It's usually closer to 200 g when the majority switch. I know it's frustrating, but you have to comply with their behaviors.

Well, if she is that small, a little blind rat pup would be no big deal to feed live. No worries of anyone getting hurt, no need to p/k. Maybe just smuggle the pup in and don't tell mom and sister? Is that an option? So you can get your little guy going?

Looks like Live pup it is. I will go and buy one today. See if she will take it. But if she doesn't what am I to do with the rat?

I bet if you leave her alone in a dark quite place with it overnight, it will be gone. Otherwise, do you have any other piggies who would eat it?

I don't understand the logic here. They do realize that the f/t ones were alive at some point right? :confusd: They are dying either way, just a matter of when...

pre killing a baby rat that small is literally as easy as flicking their skull. Their skulls at that age are paper thin so the death is quick. I can understand if you dont wanna do that though.

Try braining one of the f/t rats. Take a knife and poke a small slit into the skull and squeeze some of the brain juices out. Then if she doesnt take it while you zombie dance it just leave it in the tub with her overnite.

Also i noticed the tubs in your rack you got are pretty large. Try temporarily moving her into a 6qt tub with just a water dish and a tight fitting hide. She probably doesnt feel secure in the big tub.
