    i want something like a sandy type, something that's nice looking etc...

    I would caution against using a fine particle substrate. Corrugated board looks neat and clean.

    It's not about neat looking or what YOU want it's about meeting proper husbandry!

    Sand is not natural (BP are not found in desert areas) and it will not allow you to meet proper husbandry as it will not hold humidity.

    yea i understand, I currently use aspen i was wanting something to use while my snake has mites something cheap and easily replacing because the white paper towels im suing are so unsafe i feel like he just get underneath them easily and get burned :/

    How many layers of paper towel are you using that there is that much of a temp difference :confusd:

    They are so thin the temp should be the same top and bottom, if he would get burned under them he would get burned on them....

    ive got quite a few layers, i just mean there not good material there are easy to lift up i cant really explain what i mean.

    I get what you mean, I just don't see how that much heat is lost.

    Again, corrugated board.

    The BEST substrate when you have mite is either un-printed newspaper or white paper towel, this will help you monitor the infestation. Once the mites are gone you can then change to your regular substrate.

    Not trying to hijack this thread, but I am testing a new rack and the temp below and above a single piece of newspaper is quite significant. Like 4 to 5 degrees. What gives??? Ugh!
