    Waterfall Question
In my GTP terrarium I have a Zoo Med waterfall kit. It runs down and into the water bowl, overflows and completes the cycle. It has been great to keep my humidity up. I ask having one problem. The water evaporates really fast.

    Setup:

    12*12*18 tank
    Hydrobeads base
    Screen
    Repti-bark

Problem: have a vacation in a few months and will be gone for seven days, water level will drop to far for waterfall to work properly.

    Solution ideas:

1.) A friend will check by, but I would rather they not have to do anything just make sure bulbs are working and the water is there.

2.) Take a tupperware base and drill holes in the sides. Place this upside down in the middle of the beads. Therefor displacing the beads and giving me a larger water reservoir.

3.) Add a large water dripper that will replenish the lost water. I found this gallon dripper on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-The-Dr...little+dripper . I'm leaning towards the dripper cause that would be easy for my friend to refill if needed without having to open the tank. He is not a snake person and she is nippy, easy is best.

4.) Turn the waterfall Off when I'm gone and add a mister for my humidity. Suggest a good mister if you like this option. I want to add one anyway just have not commited to one yet.

Do yall have any other ideas or could make mine better?

I also like the dripper idea because when I get home I can take it down. I know waterfalls can cause bacteria/mold problems. But with how fast I loose water adding it once or twice a week keeps my water fresh and so far I have not had any problems.

How bout we start another poll for how many people use tubs/racks vs. tanks/terrariums? Seems like most on here use racks.

I'm looking at the exo terra monsoon mister , it's less than $100 @ amazon , has a large resivoir , 2 misting heads and is programmable , you can also buy extra misting heads to expand it to more enclosures , I've read that the built in timer can be iffy , but you could always add a external one . Lots of vids online

I would just turn off the waterfall.

The best option is to find someone who can mist the cage.

I've used the mistking systems and like them a lot.

Can't say about your waterfall. As far as this ^^^ tubs and a rack are the way to go. Easier to clean, take up less space, hold humidity well with just a water bowl. We started with tanks and soon figured out tubs were they way to go. Won't ever waste another penny a glass tank for a bp.

Just turn off the waterfall while you're gone. And if you mist right before you go, you shouldn't have to worry about keeping humidity up while you're gone. He'll be perfectly fine for 7 days (as long as your friend still checks on him...).

GTPs are not as sensitive as most people think. So often their husbandy is over-thought. Seriously, treat him like any other snake and you'll be fine. If your enclosure holds humidity well, than that's all you need. I have a pvc cage for my GTP and I only mist once every 7-10 days. There needs to be a drying out period or you risk mold and bacteria growth which is far more detrimental to your GTP's health than low humidity. :gj:
