Super excited and slightly bummed all at once!!
I just found out that the ISAF has put kite racing one the schedule for 2016 Olympics!!! That is seriously awesome!! I am so very excited about that. Sadly I am a Kite buggy person so I was hoping that kite buggy sprint would be there. It is really great that one of heck of an awesome sport is getting admission. I am really sad that it is not buggy, I am ranked 5 in Canada so IF it was buggy (:tears:) I would have had a REAL shot to go to the olympics. DANG.

In case you are interested I picked three fav kite vids for you.
    Buggy...

OK I couldn't pick I love them both.

Snow kite... with Chasta likely one of the worlds greatest kite pilots! Big air...

More Guillaume Chastagnol (Chasta) on water... Ozone vids sorry I ride ozone mostly...

I guess if you are still reading this here are two more buggy links...

'Fast' Arnie world record kite buggy... 133.4KM/h 82.9 mp/h with a kite...

I know a few freestyle guys they are VERY prone to accidents and booboos... if you are starting buggy heck kiting this takes TONS of experience before you start trying this stuff... the kite in this video is nicknamed 'The Widowmaker'

If you have continued through this all thanks for reading and indulging some pure excitement on my part!!!!

It looks like I'll never get to go. If buggy ever got in it is what 2016 to 2020 at the soonest... I am sure I will be well and truly unseated by then I am just under 50mp/h speeds and well Arnie is so far away from me the gap opens every year too. Fear keeps me safe and keeps me slower and slower too... I don't heal like I used to. My beach is only 2 KM long hitting 78km the rocks on the end get very close very very quickly.

I am afraid of those rocks...

So neat! How does one actually get into something like this? I assume it helps to live somewhere where there is actually wind? :P

Start small!! (depending on how large you are 2-4m and low aspect stable kites. for a first kite an HQ scout 2m or 3m good all rounder and not killer on the wallet) and find people whom are already have experience to help. Wind is good but often you don't need tons 10 mph is great for learning. I have a friend whom gets 7-12mph most of the time he loves the light stuff. Where I am we have more than that usually... Nice steady wind is helpful too. We don't get that either...

Seriously if you really wanted to try find a shop and get a lesion. They often will use a 'school kite' so you just pay for time and around here anyway if you buy one in 3 weeks the cost of the class is taken off the kite cost.

Buggy takes about 2 weeks to learn kite control and then a day or two on the buggy and you have the basics down kite surfing is quite a lot harder. Snow is about the same maybe a bit easier.

1 sq meter is 10 sq feet a 2 or 3m kite is 20 to 30 sq feet it is not small really and produces tons of power. Make no mistake in thinking it is a toy. It is NOT. I am 240 pounds and 6'4" I have been pulled by a 1m kite digging my heels in as hard as I can, these are fun and safe if used correctly but are not toys. People get hurt really badly when they think they are toys. People whom don't respect power kites and treat them as toys get hurt. NOT a TOY.
