Difference between Axanthics? (and some more)

I was wondering, what's the actual difference in the strains of Axanthic? I've heard of VPI and TSK Axanthics, but are there more?

Also, how much would they set you back? Are they hard to find?

And last, but not least, which one do you prefer?

Are you referring to genetics behind them or appearance?

As far as the genetics are concerned they are all just slight variations of the same gene.

They run about the same as most other single recessive morphs.

They do brown out... Some more than others. I like the VPI line the best.

Something else to keep an eye on is the black axanthic. These are new and a completely separate morph. They are still rare but they promis an axanthic that keeps its colors

Its recessive so no super form. I cant imagine how much a black axanthic would set you back at least 20k I bet.

for the regular axanthic I prefer vpi as most other people do too as they then to look better as adults then the other lines.

Prices will depend on who you go thru to get them but I wouldnt pay more then $4-500 for a visual male or female. Female hets are cheap from bhb, I think they were only $125-$150 which is very good honestly.

Ah, my mistake. Pretty new to genetics, so I didn't know. And thanks for the info! I'm hoping in 5-6 years that the price for a Black Axanthic will go down, seeing as that's the time I 'll be able to get one! haha.

Honestly right now you can get black Ax babies for about 5k. I purchased a pair of het from JK for around 3k. I am excited about this line of axanthics. Great things will come from it. Especially if it doesn't brown out.

Definitely go wiith VPI. I am picking up a 2012 male this year to pair with my female %50 het axanthic spider. I am also wanting tom make some axanthic bees down the road with my male pastel.

Think of coloring as a ladder, in this case a 3 step ladder. Each step representing VPI, Joliff and the other.

while each color is just a step away, they are separate steps and do not cross mingle

I dont know if it counts but dont leave out red axanthic. They hatch out and look like any other axanthic, but then turn a rusty maroon color as adults. Also up here in Canada we have a breeder named Markus Jane and he has his own line of recessive axanthics as well. Also I dont know if this counts but BHB has their Super Lori balls that have a very axanthic look to them with a redonkulas pattern. Has an Axanthic clown ever been made...I may have to look that up!

The incompatible axanthic lines would be DIFFERENT genes. Similar phenotype but shouldn't be the same locus.

So is Marcus Jane's line from those het pieds that unexpectedly produced an axanthic pied? I thought he figured out there was some known line in their ancestry but that was a while back so I might not be remembering right and of course this may not even be the same project. Has anyone tested his line for compatibility with each of the other lines yet? Seems an unlikely test for anyone to have done as I'm not sure anyone to this day has breed homozygous TSK to homozygous VPI (het to het is all I've heard of with results consistent with incompatibility but not absolutely proven). Hard to justify probably creating double hets just to get to the bottom of expected incompatibility.
