20 gallon viv - can I use it for a baby BP?
    Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and to BP keeping ... We are due to receive our first ball python in a week's time from a breeder. We have a 20 gallon viv already, and while I realise its a little large for a baby, would it be completely unworkable for a 2 month old BP (last measured weight 135g) if we provided quite a lot of hide space and filled the tank up with climbing branches, fake leaves, etc.

    Thanks!

Welcome to BP.net and the addiction! :welcome:

If you give her extra hides and add lots of foliage and things to hide under that will make her feel secure, you should be just fine. :gj: Also...I just had to add that I almost named one of my snakes Bellatrix LeSnake...I was SOOOO close to doing it. Love it. :D

While glass tanks are not the best cages for a snake, a 20 gallon will work with enough cover.

I suggest you checkout these 2 threads. The first goes over care, and the second goes over heating.

Thanks to both of you for the quick responses. I will absolutely check those care links out!

Yes, we had already decided that if we got a boy, it would be Severus and a girl had to be Bellatrix. Oh Harry Potter fanaticism ...

Exactly! I was going to do Bellatrix LeSnake or Narhissa Malfoy. ;) I already knew mine was going to be female. I ended up naming her Xena...after Xena Warrior Princess. Cyane is one of the Amazon Queens from the same show. lol. But I love Harry Potter just as much.

A related question - what kind of glue is safe to use to suspend plastic plants? I read that under no circumstances must one use tape inside the enclosure. But can I use superglue to stick plants to the climbing branches or would it be better to suspend them using thread?

If you could use a hot glue gun that would work. I wouldn't suggest using thread though. Some BPs are very skilled at getting into things.
