My first Albino Red Tail Boa! Some questions!
I just purchased my first baby male Albino Red Tail Boa from Emerald Coast Exotics! But I'll have to wait til Tuesday....I'm super excited!
I have some beginner's questions....
1.) Compared in size, will the common adult male RTB be around the same size as an adult female ball python? I just want to know so that I can prepare for space.
2.) Do they have the same husbandry as ball pythons?
3.) When I viewed some video clips on youtube, i notice the albinos seem to yellow out and looks patternless. Does this happen usually? I heard if you get a higher contrast albino, it would keep their patterns.
Thanks in advance!:D
Re: My first Albino Red Tail Boa! Some questions!
Congrats on your first boa! But where are the pictures?? :D
To answer your questions...
1. Males are typically several feet smaller than females. There's a lot of variance in size among boas, but I believe the average adult size for males is 6ft and for females 8ft.
2. It's similar, but you will find that their behavior is much different than that of ball pythons and for that reason I care for my boas (in terms of set-up, handling, feeding, etc) differently than my ball python.

3. Boas go through many color changes as they age, but if you get a good-looking baby you're likely to end up with a good-looking adult. And yes, the high contrasts do tend to keep their patterns.
Also, most albino boas are Colombian boas (Boa constrictor imperator), not red tails (Boa constrictor constrictor). Colombians are very frequently referred to as red tails though, so don't worry about it. Just so you know. :)

Male BCIs (Common Colombian Boa Constrictor) are typically smaller than females with most reaching between 4-6ft. I wouldn't say they are the same size as an adult female ball python...they are usually bigger than that unless you have a really large female ball, or a small male BCI. While some may be similar in size, you need to be prepared for it to get larger. There are always exceptions to the norm. I have seen males that are bigger than the average female, and males that are more average sized. Just depends on the snake.

Not exactly. Check out this guide - The Ultimate Boa Constrictor Care Manual. It will help you immensely. There are other parts also available on the same site, or a free download in pdf form. It even has a special add on about breeding by the Boaphile. ;)

Not entirely sure about this. I think it depends on quality and the type of albino you purchased.
Thanks in advance!:D
I hope this helped a little. :D

Imo, this place is a better forum than the redtail one. Even for boa info, as lots of us have them too and this is a very active forum. I visited the redtail one, and that's all I did. One visit one day. Like it much better here. Congrats!! Hey, another member for the boa club...lol

I like this forum better than Redtailboas.com, but I have yet to find a better care guide than the one provided there. It covers SOOO much. But of course, if you have any questions for the Boaphile you can address them there. He's on there quite often.
