Keeping breeder rats in same room as snakes
Do any of you keep your breeder rats in the same room as your snakes? If so, does it, and how so, affect the snakes feeding response?

I know when I thaw my rats next to the snake racks, some of them are already ready to eat before I even feed, because they smell it. Yet, they haven't smelt it the week before, so I don't know if having the constant smell in there would ironically make them "used to" the scent and not be stimulated by it as much.

I dont because for one my room stays about 80 and I like to keep my rats (what few I have) in a somewhat cooler environment. And I dont want the smell of rodents in my room all the time so when I go to handle my snakes they arent thinking its feeding time cuz I dont want a confused snake chomping down on my fingers! :) I personally would discourage it but there may be others that do keep their rats in the same room as their snakes...

I housed my feeders in the same room as my snakes for a while. The snakes seemed more interested in the prey scent for about a week and a half or so (roaming their cages constantly, tongues flicking constantly tasting the air, etc.). It made zero difference in their feeding response; some still refused on occasion and the garbage disposals lived up to their names, lol! I don't keep them together anymore just because my breeders outgrew the room, so they're now housed in a separate location but for the six months or so that I did house both together, it didn't affect them in the least that I could see.

Due to currently living in an unfinished basement, I keep my snakes and rat rack right next to each other, by the space heater. Aside from having to make sure I play with the snakes BEFORE I do my rat chores, it makes very little difference. My girls' appetites are great, but they also don't mistake me for food. I've had refusals (fostering a friend's male BP for a while, I think he was more distracted by the presence of females than food lol), and everybody's behaviour is normal.
