Keeping breeder rats in same room as snakes
Do any of you keep your breeder rats in the same room as your snakes? If so, does it, and how so, affect the snakes feeding response?
I know when I thaw my rats next to the snake racks, some of them are already ready to eat before I even feed, because they smell it. Yet, they haven't smelt it the week before, so I don't know if having the constant smell in there would ironically make them "used to" the scent and not be stimulated by it as much.
Re: Keeping breeder rats in same room as snakes
I housed my feeders in the same room as my snakes for a while. The snakes seemed more interested in the prey scent for about a week and a half or so (roaming their cages constantly, tongues flicking constantly tasting the air, etc.). It made zero difference in their feeding response; some still refused on occasion and the garbage disposals lived up to their names, lol! I don't keep them together anymore just because my breeders outgrew the room, so they're now housed in a separate location but for the six months or so that I did house both together, it didn't affect them in the least that I could see.
