Trying to say Hi, didn't see where.

I am new to the forums and fairly new to the reptile world. I did have a Burmese python when I was 17. I only had it because girls liked them. I had no idea about husbandry or anything else. Thankfully I got rid of him because I had him for all fo the wrong reasons. I have since gotten interested in them again and so have my kids. 2 teenagers. We went to our first reptile expo last weekend and I must say, I met alot of good people. I am also confused by our visit. My wife, (who doesn't like and was against snakes) fell in love with a pair of ball pythons a male and a female regular pythons for 30.00. It seemed like a great deal. I talked to everyone there and I swear every single person said that you can house 2 pythons together except for kingsnakes. I don't want to stress them and I don't want babies right now so I won't keep them together. (they are tiny). The guy we bought them from said they eat good and they just ate 3 days ago. My thing is, my kids love holding them. I let them and I guess we will find out in 4 days if they are stressed or not when I try and feed them. I hate to tell my kids not to hold them. I read different opinions all the time on all the websites. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and I never wanted a python but am now very happy we got them. We are still getting a red tail but these pythons are cool.

Stop handling them! You really should put them away and let them adjust to their surroundings and then when they have eaten a few times slowly integrate yourself into their lives. Im glad that you are not housing them together tho!

also if later on down the road you decide to get another male or female DO NOT house them together. What people told you about that is wrong.

Hello, and :welcome: to BP.net. I agree. Try to minimize handling until they eat for you. Once they eat, wait about two days, and then start out with short handling sessions, and then slowly increase the time. They need time to adjust to the new sights and smells of their new surroundings and become comfortable. With kids around, it will be tough to enforce, but it is for the best.

I will try and get some photos. Like I said, there is so much conflicting info on EVERYTHING these days it is hard what to believe. I figured atleast on a forum, People who don't really know would be called out. I swear though, EVERY person at that expo said you could house them together.

Co-habitation can be done successfully, but it takes alot more planning, preparation, and diligence on the Keepers part, to minimize the chance of problems arising from competition, illness, and unwanted mating, and is generally not recommended.

Wow. That picture says alot. I just don't understand why people say go to breeders and then the breeders at this expo contradict EVERYTHING that I have read. I don't know if they want you to buy more so that is why they tell you that or not. Hopefully, I separated them and quit handling them in time to not keep them from eating and being healthy.
