Temperature a big difference ?

Does temperature play a huge role In rat breeding? I keep my house at 78 degrees 24/7 and I have had no luck with these rats, they wont breed for me no matter what. So I was just wondering if I make it hotter would their be a greater possibility of them actually
Mating ?!!?! I also keep them in aquariums on Aspen bedding, could either one of these affect it ?http://img.tapatalk.com/a6937b90-919b-7c53.jpg

The hotter it gets the less they will breed and or the smaller the production.

Optimum temps for rat breeding is mid 60's to mid 70's that is when they will produce the most.

Did you buy adult or did you buy small rats that you raised up yourself.

There could be several issues, age (to old to breed already), fertility issue (male or female), etc

If it persist I would recommend getting some small rat from someone local who breeds them and try to start over with strong genes and I would avoid hairless (not the best breeder or producer)

Thanks Deborah appreciate the input, I will take your advice. I bought 1 big male and I raised up most of my females except for 2 of them which I purchased off a local breeder. You are right the hairless have showed NO INTEREST in mating or one another. I'm thinking about selling them, I've had them for about 4 months now and I have only gotten 1 litter and that was from the furrs.

I have to say I haven't seen a staggering drop off in litters. I live in Florida and my rats are outside. During the winter, they came in when it got below 55. When the peak of summer hits, I am going to have a fan on them and they always have a white sheet over them to keep them in the shade.

Am I recording litter size per female? per bin? No. But I have had no shortage.

Don't take my word as the Rat Breeding Bible, but don't let temperature scare you away from breeding and definitely get new rats if you haven't had breeding success yet.

A Note- I love my rats and just like in the winter, if it gets too hot in the summer, they will come indoors as well.

I havent done extensive research on the matter but ive had troible getting certain females pregnant. I think my male favors some and wont gove the time of day to others. My hairless an 2 agouti inparticular have been ignored. He loves my fawn hooded and albino however.
