PAM and snakes

I ordered a can of PAM because my two gtp's have mites. If I follow the instructios on the can, should that take care of it, or do I need to apply/do anything to the actual snake itsself?

Make sure that you follow the directions on the can exactly. PAM is nasty stuff that not only can kill mites but reptiles and even humans if the directions aren't followed.

You should put your snakes on paper towels instead of what ever substrate you use... this does 2 things.

1. It allows you to see mites better

2. prevents mites from hiding in the substrate

You should remove as much from the cages as possible the less that is in there the less there is for mites to hide on/in.

Keep the cage hospital clean, and try to keep cross contamination to a minimum.

You should soak your snakes twice a day in warm water (water temperature in the mid 80's) with a drop of dawn dish soap.

If you use half log hides or anything that is wood they will need to be baked in the oven or simply thrown away. (oven temperature 350 for 20-30 minutes This is far below the flash point of wood so it is safe)

Follow the instructions exactly. Try not to breath or get any on your hands. Personally I'd wear gloves and spray outside. I would ask for an MSDS sheet so you know what you are dealing with. In Canada anyway they are required to provide one on request.

Again, follow the directions to a tee! And the stuff will wipe those nasty critters out cold.

Remove the snake and water bowl. Treat everything else that will be in the enclosure. Let it dry thoroughly, so that you don't smell the vapors. Do not saturate everything with it. a light to moderate misting will be sufficient.

The directions say it all on the can!
Like others have said be sure to use care.
You should be mite free shortly after the treatment! :gj: The stuff is strong but does the job well.

So if you use PAM on a rack system like the one you get from RBI, do you just spray the entire rack as is or does the flexwatt have to be removed or anything?

You can spray it on a paper towel and wipe it on, to avoid the flexwatt...
