Your thoughts.....

    Your thoughts.....
All of my snakes always shed out in one complete piece each time. Well, last night my female normal shed out - it was all in one piece from the neck down - for some reason her head didn't shed very well. Why would this happen.

I helped her along with a damp washcloth and the majority of it came off but I am unsure about her eyecaps. This was the first problem with a shed I've experienced. The humidity in the tank was plenty high enough around 70%

Any thoughts on what happened or does this sort of thing just happen from time to time.

    Thanks

Do I need to worry about her eyecaps - I don't see anything on her eyes but I am pretty certain they did not come off. This would have been the first time so I would hope they would come off with the next shed.

I was thinking about giving her a good soak tonight to help slough off any remaining shed on her head.

What do you think I should do.

    Thanks

Honestly? I don't worry much about bad sheds, unless they are a consistent issue with said snake.

One bad shed usually corrects itself on the next shed. I don't mess with eyes either - usually they come off just fine on the next shed.

With my recent move last month, I've had horrible sheds with most of my crew. It also seems to be drier here than it was in my old apartment, because I'm refilling water far more frequently.

Do not worry about the eye caps. If you try to remove them yourself you can cause more harm then good. Just leave them be until she sheds again

But, do you all agree that I should soak her tonight to ensure all the shed is off her head. I tried to rub it off with a wet washcloth but she was not to happy about that at all.

As far as I can tell she just has a little piece on the tip of her nose.

I'll bet she will rub it off if it is just a bit on her nose.

I don't usually soak mine, I tie them up inside of a wet snake bag and put them back in the warm part of their tub. It's worked really well for me. Make sure the bag does not have a real tight weave like you get on really high end pillow cases or they could become air tight when wet. While I've never actually heard of a snake suffocating inside of a snake bag, in theory it could happen.
