Bottle sippers with or without ball bearings?

I'm planning on buying some new bottles. My previous ones came complete and have sipper tubes with no ball bearings. The site I'm looking at gives you the option of sipper tubes with or without ball bearings. Which are better in peoples experiences?

I didn't even know they made water bottles without the bearing!

The 2 things I didn't like about the bottles with the bearing is that when I kept them in my room, often someone would decide at about 3 AM that they were dying of thirst and would LOUDLY drink for several minutes straight. The other thing would be trying to adjust the height so that the babies could reach it, but not have it so low that the adults would shove bedding into it.

I've never seen the other type, so I can't comment on them. But, other than those two things, the standard bottles are fine.

I had to go look up what you were talking about, and I assume you were talking about something like the Lixit valves, with the little pin in the middle?

I would get one of those over the ball bearing type, even if they were more expensive because not only does it eliminate the two problems I mentioned, the Lixit brand is what they use for laboratory animals, even the dogs and primates, and they work great! I had forgotten those existed, even though I did work in that type of setting for a few months last year. :)

I've tried using the Lixit valve sipper (pin) water bottles, but it was way too stiff for my animals to use properly. I've tried it on rats and ferrets. They weren't able to move the pins to get water. I've tried a few different bottles thinking it was maybe a faulty bottle, but they all had the same problem. In the end, they were all returned to the store.

The valve sippers for rodent gravity watering systems are much better and easy for the animals to use. It's quiet as well.

I have the non bearing ones from big apple herps and they work just fine... No noise :gj: I would go with the non bearing they dont leek at all eather.

I vastly prefer the ones with no balls. No balls, means no stopped up valves, and no flooded tubs, ever! I never have to check to make sure the balls are working properly either.

I'm not sure what brand, but I'm using a laboratory type bottle, with a metal cap.
