    Idiocracy ITS HAPPENING PEOPLE!!
Just a quick rant. Is it just me or is the world getting dumber? Now I don't claim to be a writer, or an English major but I see people graduating high school with honors that can barely spell their own name!

SHAME on the public school system. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!

I can barely read Craigslist anymore because it ticks me off so bad. Im looking for a new car and noticed all of the spelling errors and its driving me nuts. Enough that I felt the need to post this and rant to you guys.

I saw a job posting today that required the candidate to have a 4 year degree and 3 years experience yet I could barely read the job posting because it was so full of spelling and grammar errors.

On that note I cant get a decent job to save my life because I don't have a degree yet the person offering the job has an education of a 5th grader.

God it makes me so mad!!!!!!!! Thank you for listening to my rant.

Oh I know all too well how you feel. The amount of jobs I see that I have to read and re-read because of awful spelling and grammar... Shocking.

Just yesterday I was on Facebook and there is a particular girl I know who has completely atrocious spelling. A little while ago she worte "ay1 know were I can find sum voltray work"

 So I was really confused (it was late and I couldn't find the energy to decipher her status) and I asked her what "voltray work" was and she went off on one at me! apparently, Voltray work is similar to "voluntary"... :gj:

Obviously someone else got annoyed by her constant annihilation of the English language, and commented on a status yesterday. All of a sudden, like lifting up a rock and finding dozens of ants, all her illiterate friends came out and started defending her, one of them going as far as to say "most people can't spell" in such a way to make it okay!!!! I was fuming. She was even asked if she had difficulty spelling or if she just couldn't be bothered... the latter was her answer and it really annoyed me. So I chimed in and pointed out that FB has a spell-checker option, they she was getting very angry and threatening (she threatened the person that made the negative comment) but that she herself had stated that she could not be bothered to spell correctly.

I understand that some have difficulty spelling, and I don't consider myself to be better than these people because I can spell. But I did go to school and I think my time there was worthwhile and I took pride in my work and learning and I make the effort so I don't look like a complete moron - if I couldn't spell, I'd try and learn how, and I would make good use of a spell-checker.

Sorry if I've come across as mean or snotty.

You are complaining about people butchering the English language, which is mostly caused by laziness,
and then you go and make this comment...:D

I personally would not like having a computer fix punctuation for me.

A friend of mine is doing a masters in english, for his defence he claimed there are now three forms of english in use. Oral, written, and chat. He argued his defence with 'text' on a phone. He has a kid do the texting for the committee (faster...) and at the end he came out with a printed summary of the text sent both ways... all full of 'text shorthand' he was granted his degree. LOL... where R-U... and all the others are common to see in text and IM but are starting to creep into regular writing practices. It seems that where proper grammar and usage are missing 'text' creeps in. It is sad as there is a lot of reading between the lines and interpretations made.

I can't even write in text. Takes me longer to think what the shorthand would be.

Fortunately I live in a state that actually funds it's public school system. Most of the people I know can spell just fine.
