A heat lamp will also suck the humidity right out of your tank. I would get uth and a thermostat.

I agree with above posts drop the heat lamp and get yourself an undertank heat pad with a thermostat

Right back into the box, then straight back to wherever you got it from!

If you've got a screen top, cover it up with some foil to keep the humidity in the enclosure :gj:! Get an under tank heater WITH a thermostat. Do not use the UTH without one!

I see you like the quote in my sig :D.

As everyone has mentioned,a UTH is more ideal, but if you must use a heat light, put it on one side, on the opposite side of where the water bowl is.

I'd recommend putting it on a rheostat or dimmer so that you can control just how hot it does get.

Not sure if you have a UTH, but i know when i used tanks in the past that in order to get proper temp readings for the hot and cool side, a heat lamp came in handy. I would get a great reading for the hot end (90) and the cool end would be like (70). Start it at the opposite side of your UTH and see how that works. If it gets too hot try turning your heat pad down and moving it more toward the middle. Trial and error my friend, just pay really close attention when doing this.

Something that nobody has mentioned yet is that UTH's do NOT change the air temperature in the tank, so if the room that the tank is in gets below 75 degrees then a heat lamp will be necessary to get the air temperature up.
