New to forum

Hello I am new to the forum. I just got my first BP yesterday and am very new to all this. He is only a few weeks old and I have him in a 10 gallon tank with a mesh top. A hiding spot on one side a water dish. on the other side I have a 75 watt bulb up top and a UTH on the side because it wont stick underneath. I also have a container with moist moss in it to keep the humidity up. I can post a pic of my set up later but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hiya and :welcome: First off here is a good read for you Caresheet. I would recommend getting the UTH underneath maybe attaching it with foil tape. In addition make sure your heating is regulated with a thermostat. :gj:

A few suggestions...

If you don't already have something to control the heat you will need to get either a rheostat or a thermostat to regulate your temperatures. Your UTH is best suited for the bottom of your tank under the hot hide. If it doesn't stick on its own you can get some aluminum tape and tape the edges to stick it on the bottom.

With mesh screen tops and heat bulbs you often have humidity problems. If you are having a problem I would cover part of the mesh with tinfoil, this will help keep the humidity in after misting and such. This along with your moss should do the trick.

Make sure you add another hide so your snake has an identical hide on both sides of the tank so he can thermoregulate as needed and feel secure on either the hot or cool side.

Last... Give him a week or so of little to no handling except water changes, spot cleaning etc. You want to limit the amount of stress on your new little guy and let him get used to his new home.

At only a few weeks old do you know how many meals he has accepted or what he was feeding on before you got him?

I got the feeding chart from the store I bought him from he has eaten twice out of his last three feedings. Thanks for the tips.

The perfect size set up for a baby bp is a 20 gal long and plexi glass works perfect for holding in humidity but make sure you keep an eye on temperature because covering half the top can make the tank heat up really fast and to much heat can kill the snake like they said before get a thermostat and 2 hydrometer and thermometer combo gauges stick one on the hot side and one on the cool side so you have a hydrometer and thermometer on both sides :) and welcome to the wonderful world of being a reptile parent lol

Oh and dont have to much humidity or the snake might get sick

I doubt he'll get too much humidity at all using a bulb. Welcome to the forum! If you haven't already, be sure to check out the caresheet :D

The temp has been right around 87 on the hot side and about 10 degrees cooler on the cool side with the humidity right in the mid 40's

Don't quote me on it, but I've been told humidity should be in the 60-70% range
