    Northern Watersnake... I think
Was talking about coming across snakes while hiking in an earlier thread... Reminded me of this shot I got of what im 90% sure is an Northern Watersnake while hiking the Bruce Trail along lake Huron a while back.

Edit: Had the Eastern Massasauga Rattler on the brain... I meant Northern Watersnake!! If any MOD sees this please update the Title, thanks.

Nice find! Looks like a northern water snake to me, not too much else it could be up around lake Huron.

Thanks. I've run into Red-Bellied Snakes, Massasauga Rattlers and Garters up there before, but mainly these watersnakes. You can find a ton of them in all the wet areas and the puddles in the rock along the shorelines.

They have Ring-Necks, Smooth Greens and Ribbon Snakes in the Bruce Peninsula Area also, but I have never been lucky enough to see them.

WHAT! You got a see a Mississauga rattler! Lucky! I have in my life time of living in Ontario (19 years) Have only seen a total of 8 snakes :( 5 of which were garters, 2 milks, 1 corn. But I have never gone field herping yet.

Gunna get to do a lot of it when I get my motorbike :D

I do a lot of hunting and hiking up in Northern Ontario so I have seen my fair share of rattlers. A few years back me and some buddies were on out way out for an early morning goose hunt around 5:30 in the morning and I stepped on one. Before I could see it with my Head-Lamp it struck me in the leg, my Irish Setter snake boots sure came in handy that day. I never go anywhere up North without them.

The Bruce Trail, Rouge Valley and Niagara Escarpment are great places to go for a hike to see some Herps, great plant life and an array of other animals.
