New V-18 Rack, Replace the 6QT?
So I picked up my new V-18 Rack from Chris over at C-Serpents, and I have to say that I love it. I am actually thinking of selling my 10-Tub 6QT Hatchling rack and replacing it with another one of these. Anyone think there's a huge difference in hatchlings being in a V-18 tub vice waiting for them to grow to 300-500 gram range before you move them into a bigger tub than 6QT?

Here is a picture of 2 of my males enjoying it, also a pic of my snake room and racks.

Those tubs are great...I've started plenty of hatchlings in them...Most did great...Every once in a while I had to move a picky eater into a 6 qt to get it going...

Hello....noticed that you dont use hides in your rack tubs, which may explain why i am having sporadic feeding success,i have been using hides in my rack tubs and having to hope i can catch them out on the move late at night to feed....otherwise i end up having to pull the hidebox up off of em and i dont think they dig that very much, as usually after i do this they wont eat. would you recommend taking out the hides? thank you in advance

also how do you like the C Serpent racks?....i just ordered a set

I'm not sure why hides would make a negative impact on feeding.. It's usually the other way around. I have a couple that ate sporadic feeders unless they have a hide. Then I dangle the food in front of the opening of the hide and they take it so fast it scares me every time. Snakes prefer to be ambush predators. It's more natural. I bet removing the hide is what is snapping your snakes out of feeding mode. You've just startled them, disturbed them, and the last thing on their minds at that point is food.

Kind of like why many more snakes who are fed in a separate enclosure are sporadic feeders. Simply touching them or changing anything about their environment can snap them out of wanting food.

I have one of these racks myself, don't see a need for 6 qt's anymore.

I put the clutch that just hatched with me in the shoebox sized tubs in my rack this year. I haven't noticed any difference between these and babies kept in my hatchling rack. They are eating the same way. 3 started immediately, while the others are taking their time. No different than any other year. I would make sure they have small hides and they will be fine.
