Got my Herpstat 2, have a question about the settings

So I received the herpstat 2 today and have a couple quick questions. I was wondering about the dimming and pulse settings. Which setting do you guys run with? And I had planned on hooking up my oil filled radiator heater to it. Is anybody doing that and if so how do you do it? Do you have the heaters built in thermostat turned all the way to minimum? It just didn't seem like the thing was working properly when I did it that way. Thanks for the help.

I am unsure about an oil filled heater and a herpstat. The 2 only has 500w max I don't know how many watt heater you have I would be concerned that you are going over the limit. The on board setting would be at max. I think I would use on an oil heater on/off but I might check with Dion (spider robotics) just to be sure.

I agree with Kitedemon, the Herpstat 2 really isn't the best choice for running oil filled heaters as they usually run 1,500 watts (unless you have a smaller one) You will want to run it in non-proportional mode with the oil filled heater

The dimming mode is the most accurate mode, and is what I use with my flexwatt.

I use the proportional dimming mode with my CHE. Apparently the pulse proportional mode is used for metal racks and would illuminate a possible humming sound. On off is good for controlling fans, and (like mentioned above), small heaters or even A/C provided the units are under 500watt peaks. Personally I don't like pushing limits on control devices. It is asking for trouble. Always best to check with the manufacturer to be sure. Dion is really good and I had an answer very quickly when I contacted him with a few questions.

Is there a way to use the oil heaters built in thermostat just to keep a decent ambient and use the herpstat to control your hotspot?

This says it all I'd go with a johnson controls this is what that unit was made for.
