Proper setup size?

Im getting a baby normal bp 100% pied in the next month or so. We are waiting until he eats a few timea before he comes home :). (He ate for the first time a few days ago) anywho im gonna keep him in a 6qt tub at first but wondered what size home he will need as he grows? Theres someone local who sells pvc cages pretty cheap that im considering getting. I was looking at there 24x 16x 18x i think it ia for 60 bucks. But dont think he can be in that forever lol. They also have one similar in size to a 40 gallon breeder aquarium i was also looking at for 135.. but just checking to make sure i get the right size for him for later :p

I use 48" x 24" x 12" PVC cages.

The general rule for snakes is that they need 1 square foot of floor space for every foot of snake. So the average 4-6 foot BP will need a cage with 4-6 square feet of floor space.

A little more won't hurt as long as you provide enough hides/cover.

I feel that less is more when it comes to ball pythons. They don't make very good display animals since they would rather spend all their time hiding. Lots of open space in a BP enclosure isn't necessarily a good thing. I wouldn't us a 4' x 2' cage for a ball python unless it was exceptionally large... 2,000g+++. A 24" x 16" x 18" might be a little tall for a ball python, but I think the dimensions are good for a snake up to at most 2,000g. But then again, I don't keep my BPs in display cages, I keep them in tubs!

I find that 36 Qt tubs are ideal for male ball pythons.

That size is very similar to a 36qt tub so it should work well for an adult male.

Many people will put their bigger females in 41qt tubs, just for a little extra room.
