Ball python

Hello, my name is Krissy. I have been keeping ball pythons for 5 months now. I have two males, a pastel male (Zaphod, the larger of the two) and Axel, a 66% poss het clown male. When I got Axel, his left eye looked kind of funny. The pet store employee (the specialize in reptiles, and several of their employees keep reptiles themselves, and one employee is a good friend of mine) told me it was nothing to worry about. Well when I looked closer at it, it kind of looked like a mucous membrane prolapse or even retained eye caps, or like someone had tried to get off retained eye caps that weren't there. I was wondering if anyone could help me? He eats fine and sheds wonderfully, he weighed in today at 292 g at 2.25 feet.

I'm no expert on eye conditions, but if your snake has had this for several months, and it hasn' t corrected from shedding, then the only "nothing to worry about" that I would believe would be from a vet. I would hate for the snake to lose an eye over something that could have been fixed in the early stages...

That is odd.. I've seen many pictures of layers of stuck caps, attempted removal of a cap that wasn't there, therefore the required cap was removed from the eyeball causing damage, and simple dry eyes where the required cap is simply dented and dry.

This looks different. I can't tell but it could be damage done by something or someone. When it comes to the eye caps we always advise leaving them alone and just raising humidity very high during next shed. In this case I'm not sure what to recommend.

I'd take it to a vet but only an experienced reptile vet. Even then you often get one who has no experience, or has just been givin the wrong info for so long that they don't know it's wrong.

I wouldn't let even a vet try to remove caps from a snakes eyes but again, I can't tell what's going on with yours.

Has it shed since you've had it?

does it move or has it changes any with a shed??

Axel has shed several times since I have gotten him, and it hasn't gotten worse or better. I am wondering if it has to do with how he was incubated? I haven't had any issues with stuck eye caps with him from it, so I will keep an eye on it (no pun intended) for the next few days. I have never had an issue with that, since it was like that when I got him, and he eats perfectly. he doesn't always eat when about to shed though, but he is a great eater.

I am by far NO EXPERT, but it looks like a scar to me. Maybe from a bad feeding or just rubbing it against something or human damage... who knows. I'm glad it's not affecting him, and I hope it is nothing, but if you're worried I would definitely suggest going to a Herp specialist. Best of luck!

Is there a little dip in his face in front of the eye?

I wondered if it is a result of a slight deformity?
