Large snake still on the prowl
This is here in Columbia, SC. I can't really tell what kind it is:

Very large snake still on the prowl in Columbia neighborhood

I doubt that snake is 20 feet long (or 15 ft, for that matter).

It's hard to tell due to the picture quality and the fact that the snake itself is so dark, distinguishing a pattern is kind of difficult

I would say it was a rat snake but the head shape looks off to me.

That snake is waaaaay to heavy bodied to be a rat snake! Makes me wonder what it is!

Why can't any of that happen near me? That was really cool, and I agree. There is no way that is a rat snake. I hope they find it so we can have some more info. Good field helping for people in that area

I seriously do not think that is any type of python. If you watch the video and note the tree to the left of the home owner I think that is the same tree the snake was on. Now when you see the tree with the man in the video it gives you a much clearer idea of the size and girth.

I would say ball park of 7-8ft at best and perhaps a bit thick for a rat snake but by no means a record setter.

Link to slide show of other photos of the same snake.

What I have learned is that people don't know the difference between 20 ft and 5ft.

you're right, that tree is tiny. no way this snake is that long, or thick. they do climb trees. I wouldn't worry about it.
