Is this a good trade?

I have close to $500 into my system (subwoofers and amp), well just the subs and box but I'm throwing in the amp and wiring too. Tomorrow I am trading my system for an eight foot female striped tiger reticulated python, a 75 gal tank (temporary until me and the friend who's letting me keep her at his house build a bigger, reinforced enclosure), a young black blood python, and a 40 gal breeder that has a sliding glass door and a lock. I've priced the retic at $200 and the black blood python at just over $100 for a hatchling, I have no idea on the tanks but it probably makes up for the remainder. Does this sound like a good deal to you?

If you're happy with it...just make sure you're definitely ready to take on the responsibility/work involved with a retic, they're not bp's or boas.

Yeah I'm happy with it, I've always wanted a retic and striped tiger is one of my favorite morphs. Thank you for your concern, I will be reading up on them tonight and talking to other retic owners and will learn as much as I can about them before tomorrow :)

I thought you were only allowed to have 3 snakes?
And are you sure youre ready for a retic and a blood? Both can get big, especially that female retic. You have the space to house both of them and the money to pay for rabbits or chickens for the tic?
Im not trying to be a debbie downer, im just not quite convinced youre ready for the commitment. Reading up and talking to people overnite doesnt seem like the best way to get yourself prepared for a tic. Also why does the seller wanna get rid of them?

Money wise the trade sounds like a fair deal.

But, I have to agree with Mike about being ready for a Retic. Especially one that is already 8'. IDK if a subadult is the best way to start if you haven't had any experience and haven't done a great deal of research before hand.

A good trade is one in which both parties are happy. That said, I'd go play with the retic a bit before making any final decisions. When handling her try to imagine it being another 12 feet and 200 pounds, see if that helps you figure out whether you want one or not(they're not for everybody). I think if you're a first time large constrictor owner your best bet is to start with a baby so you can grow on each other. If you do that trade you'll be picking up an animal that could potentially do some damage without knowing any of her quirks. Sure she wouldn't be very dangerous at 8 feet but that's plenty of size to give a good slashing from those teeth should she prove temperamental. Just some food for thought.

Retics are amazing animals but I have to agree with the rest.. A sub adult at 8ft is going to need atleast a rabbit a week if not more. Lots of room.. Cant tub a tic...lol.. That blood is gonna give you a run for your money also.. They hit like pitbulls.. Bp bites aint but mere papercuts when your dealing with bloods and tics.. I'd hold off until your 100% positive your willing and able to give the care these bigger animals require. Keep us posted though on what you decide

not had eith but everyone s right f only xp is small bps then a retic a large jump. I know when i got my first boa rescue she was 4ft and pretty tame but i got tagged once and man it smarted for a week and this snake was only 6 ft when it happen plus she killed one of mom's cats while i was grabbing a bottle of water and had left the door open(sweating my rear off middle summer in the snake room) needless to say i had to get rid of her afte she got 7-9 ft long was too much for me to pick up out of the floor/(cage was on floor) when taking her out.
now i admit it was upsetting since i had rescued her and raised her for 4 years . but i was unable to pick her up and hthen get out of the floor, due to having ceberal pasley.

so make sure you can a getthe prey items on as needed bases , able to afford/space to have her ( not keeping at a friends place cause their bf/gf might not like the snake and ( they decide you must come get it cause it cramping their style lol) and C able to handle the snake as needed( with the normal rule most people have for large snakes
of 2-3 people to help and there every time in case something goes wrong,.

I'm inclined to agree with everyone else here Ev. Have you ever even held a snake that big? Let alone a 20-25ft snake...Feeding and housing are going to be ung-dly expensive for the Retic alone. But a blood too? I thought you were getting rid of your boa for another BP or something and as Mike said...could only have 3 snakes. :confused: Did your parents agree to this monster snake you'll be bringing home?

Regardless, I think you might want to do more than one night of research. Any Retic owner will tell you to do a lot of research, handle a full grown Retic at least once, and be prepared to drop thousands on housing and food. If you aren't able to do that, I would really advise against this trade. Otherwise that poor snake will just have to move again soon enough. :( If you are dead set on a Retic, I would definitely suggest at least starting from a baby so you can learn the snake. But if you really think you can handle this no problem even if she hits 20-25ft and 200lbs, and can drop thousands into housing and feeding this new animal within the next year or so (cause that 75 gallon glass tank is a horrible enclosure for a snake that large, even temporarily, and is really not large enough for her as is, let alone when she grows)....go for it. I'm just saying, seriously think about this. Or maybe consider a dwarf or SD instead. All the personality of the Retic without the size and expense. ;)

Oh...and yeah, I'd be very curious to know why he wants to get rid of them in the first place.
