Belly markings?
Hello,i heard from someone at the pet store i get my rats at,that the belly markings on my BP may be a sign that shes not 100% normal he said that normals don't normally have belly markings or that there aren't as many as she has,is this true? i only have my girl so i don't have any other normals to look at,i have some pictures if that is needed. thanks.

Re: Belly markings?
Belly markings are normal for most normal ball pythons. But some normals being produced these days have clear bellies because they are the "cast offs" from a pairing in which the desired gene didn't materialize or isn't proven yet. (No offense intended to the BP community refering to them as "cast offs.")
Many of the morphs may have clean bellies or various other tells to the belly markings. Yellowbellies are clear with checkering, het Peids supposedly have marks that are referred to as "train tracks" but even some of the experts don't all agree on this one.
If it's in a pet store, especially a chain store, it's likely a normal. Also you have to wonder how knowledgeable is the person at the store. Just remember that probably everyone on here started with a normal or had one at one time and all ball pythons are awesome. They are 100% het for awesome.

Belly marking can be one indicator that an otherwise Normal BP has a little something else going on, but opinions vary widely on what certain markings may or may not mean.
If you have some belly shots of your snake, please post them up :gj:
